Descrizione
The Palazzo Blu is one of the most important cultural attractions of the city of Pisa, drawing visitors from every part of Italy and the world with its temporary exhibitions of celebrated artists and its own collection of art. On permanent display are sculptures and paintings by such famous artists as Nino Pisano, Vincenzo Foppa, ?Il Cigoli?, and Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi, who contributed to make Pisa an important artistic centre for many centuries. The layout and decoration of the museum itself is a unique attraction. The building has been completely restored and on the piano nobile the interior of a nineteenth-century aristocratic residence has been recreated in every detail. Finally, the Fondamenta or lower ground floor of the palazzo has been thoroughly excavated by archaeologists, and now presents visitors with a fascinating glimpse of the various chapters in the history of the building, its site, and the quarter of Chinzica in which it stands. This convenient and useful guide will conduct the visitor through the various sections of the museum, providing a succinct account of the history and contents of each room.
